Here are some dessert recipes you can try at home:
1. Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
Ingredients:
Â? ½ cup white sugar
Â? ½ cup butter flavored shortening
Â? 1 cup packed light brown sugar
Â? 2 eggs
Â? 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
Â? 1 teaspoon baking powder
Â? 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Â? 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Â? ½ teaspoon salt
Â? ½ teaspoon ground cloves
Â? 1 cup raisin
Â? 3 cups rolled oats
Directions:
Â? Preheat your microwave or oven to about 350o F.
Â? In a big bowl, smoothen together some butter, butter flavored shortening brown sugar, eggs, white sugar and vanilla until creamy.
Â? Combine the baking soda, flour, cloves, salt and cinnamon.
Â? Mix in the raisins and oats.
Â? Bake it for about ten to twelve minutes until it becomes golden and light (but do not over bake).
Â? Let it cool down for two minutes before you remove it from the cookie sheet.
2. Banana Split Dessert
Ingredients:
Â? 2 sticks of butter
Â? 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
Â? 2 cups sifted confectioner’s sugar
Â? 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Â? 2 eggs
Â? 4 bananas
Â? 1 lg. cool whip
Â? 1 can drained crushed pineapples
Â? ½ cup chopped walnuts
Directions:
Â? Combine two cups of graham cracker crumbs with one stick of butter.
Â? Spread this into a closed pan and refrigerate.
Â? Combine two cups sifted confectioner’s sugar with two eggs, one stick of butter and one teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Â? Beat it for about five minutes until it becomes fluffy.
Â? Spread over the first mixture.
Â? Slice four to five bananas over the cream mixture.
Â? Spread one can of drained crushed pineapple over the bananas.
Â? Spread the large cool whip over the pineapple.
Â? Sprinkle chopped walnuts on the cool whip.
Â? Keep this refrigerated until ready to serve.
3. Baked Fudge Dessert
Ingredients:
Batter
Â? 3 tablespoons shortening
Â? 1 cup flour
Â? ¼ teaspoon salt
Â? ½ cup chopped nuts
Â? ¾ cup of sugar
Â? 1 ½ teaspoon baking powder
Â? ½ cup of milk
Directions:
Â? In a large bowl, combine sugar, cream shortening, baking powder, flour and salt.
Â? Add, alternately, the milk and chopped nuts.
Â? Pour it into an eight inch ungreased pan.
Toppings:
Â? ¼ cup of cocoa
Â? ¼ teaspoon salt
Â? 1 cup of brown sugar
Â? 1 cup of boiling water
Directions:
Â? Blend cocoa with brown sugar and salt.
Â? Sprinkle it over the batter.
Â? Pour the boiling water.
Â? Bake it for about 375o F (approximately 40 minutes)
Â? Serve this warm with ice cream.
4. Baked Banana and Peach Dessert
Ingredients:
Â? 2 peaches, chopped or sliced
Â? ½ teaspoon of vanilla
Â? 1 tablespoon of sugar
Â? 2 bananas, sliced in half lengthwise
Directions:
Â? In a small sauce pan, mix in vanilla, sugar and peach puree.
Â? Heat it onto a boiling stage.
Â? Cover and allow simmering for about one minute, stirring occasionally.
Â? Place the banana half in small baking dishes or squares of foil
Â? Cover each half banana with 2 teaspoonful of peach sauce.
Â? Fold the foil, closing and placing it inside the baking sheet.
Â? Bake this for about 400o F (approximately 15 minutes in the oven).
Â? Serve warm.

Today, we all lead very busy lives and don’t have hours to spend in our kitchens baking cakes.
When I am pressed for time and need a nice dessert cake, I will reach for a box of chocolate cake mix. I don’t bake just plain cakes, I like to add things to them to make them ‘extra special’.
Cake Baking Tips:
1. Invest in a cake tester. You can pick up one for less than $6.00 at most kitchen stores.
2. Don’t over bake your cakes. I tend to remove my cakes from the oven 3-4 minutes before the recommended time because they will continue baking in the cake pan.
3. Don’t grease and flour your baking pans unless the recipe calls for it.
4. Always let your cakes cool before frosting them.
Here are some recipes that you can easily make from a box of cake mix.
Chocolate Surprise Cake
1 chocolate cake mix
3 oz. box of cherry flavored gelatin
1 c. boiling water
1 c. 7-Up soda
1 box instant pudding mix, any flavor
8 oz. tub of cool whip
Prepare chocolate cake according to package directions. When cool, poke holes on top of cake with a fork. Dissolve the cherry gelatin in boiling water and add the 7-up. Pour over cake. Whip together the instant pudding mix and milk. Fold in cool whip and use this to frost the cake.
Triple Chocolate Cake
1 box chocolate cake mix
1 3/4 c. milk
1 box instant chocolate pudding mix
2 eggs
12 oz. chocolate chips
Combine all ingredients, mix by hand until well blended for about 3 minutes. Pour into greased and floured bundt pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 55 minutes or until cake is done. Do not over bake! Cool and then remove from pan.
German Chocolate Thunder Cake
1 box German Chocolate cake mix
14 oz. can of sweetened condensed milk
1 jar hot fudge ice cream topping
16 oz. tub of cool whip
2 heath candy bars
Bake cake according to package instructions. Let cool for 35 minutes. Poke holes in cake with a fork. Pour sweetened condensed milk over cake and spread evenly. Wait for 5 minutes. Spread fudge topping over cake. Wait another 5 minutes. Spread cool whip over cake and sprinkle crushed candy bars over the top.
Turtle Chocolate Cake
1 German Chocolate cake mix
3/4 c. margarine
1/2 c. evaporated milk
14 oz. bag of caramels
1 c. chopped pecans
6 oz. chocolate chips
Mix cake according to directions. Pour half of the batter into 9 x 13″ pan. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Melt milk, margarine and caramels together. Pour over hot cake. Add pecans and chocolate chips on top of caramel mixture. Pour rest of batter over cake. Bake for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the top layer comes out clean.
